London’s calling for Formula E

PLP have just completed Fire Safety works at London’s ExCeL Exhibition Centre ready for the upcoming Formula E Championship.

ExCeL Exhibition centre is to be the new home of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in the UK, It will the world’s first ever indoor/outdoor track.

Changes to the venue have included widening lorry shutters, surface treatment, adding bespoke duct plates, resurfacing of the external campus and fire safety works.

As the incumbent Fire Safety company for the Excel Centre, PLP Fire Protection was tasked with carrying out the necessary modifications to the existing fire alarm system to suit the new upgrades to the venue, including relocating fire system equipment, new fire system interfaces installed to accommodate the new door and trigger in the event of a fire evacuation. The venue’s fire system cause and effect was also modified and witness tested to ensure all systems functioned correctly.  PLP will also be maintaining the system for the event as part of our ongoing work at the London Excel Centre.

It will be the first time that an FIA-sanctioned championship event has taken place in and around the streets of London.

The event takes place on the 25th/26th June 2020.
