I have a smoke vent system, does it need to be maintained?

Yes, it is a legal requirement under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 to ensure that a suitable Fire Risk Assessment is in place and your smoke vent systems are covered by a contract of maintenance and kept in full working order to ensure you remain compliant.

This Order reforms the law relating to fire safety in non-domestic premises. It replaces fire certification under the Fire Precautions Act 1971

It is important that your smoke ventilation systems are designed, installed and maintained by a suitably qualified and accredited company. See our Installation and Maintainence pages to learn more.

IFC SDI 19 is a third party certification scheme for companies involved in the installation of smoke control systems, developed to ensure a suitable level of competency in relation to fire strategy verification, system design and the installation of smoke control systems, the scheme also covers the company’s ability to offer and provide an appropriate level of service and maintenance.
